Membership Account Executive - Bay County Chamber of Commerce

The membership sales program is a commissioned effort of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce. The Membership Account Executive (MAE) sells new membership investments, as well as retention of those memberships for a two-year period. The MAE may also sell advertising to existing members.

1. Title – Membership Account Executives (MAE).

2. Accountability – The MAE will report directly to the VP of Membership Development.

3. Objectives –

  1. Sell new membership investments.
  2. Sell advertisements to new and existing members.
  3. Collect membership renewals on those members for the first and second year renewals.

4. Ethics – The MAE represents the Bay County Chamber of Commerce in an official capacity. As such, the MAE is expected to present a professional sales presentation to their prospective clients. Professional sales ethics and appearance are to be adhered to, and conduct in the field must be above reproach at all times. The MAE may not obligate the Bay County Chamber financially, unless express authorization is given.

5. Prospect List / Materials / Attendance –

  1. The MAE is responsible for entering all prospects in the database by Friday. A minimum of (15) prospects are to be entered weekly to include Name, Business Name, Address, Phone, Email and Follow up Notes. All contacts with the prospect must be entered in the database in order for the MAE to claim that prospect.
  2. Any prospect that has been on the MAE’s prospect list for more than 45 days, and has not been sold or contact made, will be released back into the open prospect list for distribution to other MAE’s.
  3. The MAE’s will review weekly, with the VP of Membership Development, the Chamber prospect list.
  4. The MAE will turn in a weekly list of all advertising contracts currently working on to the VP of Communications.
  5. Contact notes must be entered in the database for any member advertising contracts are currently being worked on. If no contact is recorded or list is provided to the VP of Communications of an advertising prospect, the MAE may not claim credit for that sale.
  6. The Chamber will provide the MAE with sales materials, postage, phone, fax, copier and a computer.
  7. The MAE is required to attend weekly staff meetings. (Every Monday at 8:00 a.m.)
  8. MAE’s are encouraged to attend ribbon cutting ceremonies of the memberships they have sold.
  9. Attendance at First Fridays and Business After Hours are highly recommended.
  10. Normal Chamber hours are Mon. – Thurs. 9:00-5:00 and Friday 8:00-4:00. MAE may set own schedule, but must communicate with the VP of Membership Development the work schedule.

6. Renewing Member Reports –

  1. A renewal follow-up report must be submitted to the VP of Membership Development every Friday. The database must be updated with contact information regarding visits and conversations with the member.
  2. The VP of Membership Development may go along on renewal visits to evaluate relationship status.
  3. The MAE will track the new memberships sold for a two-year period. MAE’s will maintain a relationship with said member by:

First Year as New Member

1st visit - MAE will follow-up with the member at the 3 month anniversary (encouraging involvement in committees, inviting to functions and verify receipt of membership plaque and decal).

2nd visit – MAE will contact the new member at the 6 month anniversary.

3rd visit - MAE will contact the new member at the 9 month anniversary.


2nd Year of Membership

MAE will contact member upon 1st year anniversary to encourage renewal and collect dues payment.

MAE will contact member upon 18-month anniversary of membership.

MAE will contact member upon 2 year anniversary of membership to encourage renewal.


SKILLS: Good computer knowledge, great organizational skills and people skills.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE: Three years of sales experience preferred.
